I preordered my copy of the new A7X album, the special edition. The MVI. The whole deluxe deal. And now they tell me it's on BACK ORDER?! I preordered it the FIRST DAY the preorder was available! Shouldn't I be one of the ones who DOESN'T have to wait for it to be shipped? Argh. It just isn't FAIR! *bursts into a irrational and melodramatic screaming fit*

Okay, so I didn't do that. But I am pretty damn confused. Sympathize with me and give me chocolate.

Music Video review - Almost Easy

Almost Easy - Avenged Sevenfold

First of all, let me get my fifteen year old fan girl comments out of the way. I mean, hey. That's what I am, right? A fifteen year old female fan. But anyway. The opening shots.

Syn, basking in the evil smoky flames. This is the stuff angels and demons are made of, my pretties.

Zacky's piercings only enhanced his . . . what should I say? Lovely? Attractive? Handsome? Hawt? (that last one was a joke, kids, don't worry) Anyway. His piercings only enhanced his -insert adjective here- profile. That shot should have lasted longer. Much longer.

The shots of Rev's and Johnny's eyes. As soon as a good quality version of this video surfaces, I will capture them. And they will be mine. All mine.

M. Shadows has a mohawk? Who saw that one coming? Definitely wasn't me. But still, it's the same satanic face, same child-like dimples. Same amazing voice. We love him.

Okay, I'm done. Sorry. On to the real review.

From what we've heard of the new album, lyrics-wise there really hasn't been any of the Revelation inspired, telling the story of the Apocalypse type stuff we heard on City of Evil. In fact, the imagery in Almost Easy is almost what one would have expected had a video for Trashed and Scattered or The Wicked End been made.

In the video we find the band rocking out in a hellish place that brings to mind a few lines from Bat Country. Blackened and dry, the cracked ground looks like Mount Doom, only more CGI-ish. Evil looking flames run rampant, sometimes wrapping around the band members, looking almost as though the tattooed men were the source of the fire.

People are approaching from all sides, surrounding a pit from which the flames leap out. There is nothing uniform about them, save that they all seem out of it. Staring straight ahead, expressionless, all that business. As the people, one by one, walk, fall or leap into the pit, Shadows dominates the scene. With a demon-like grin and an evil chuckle, he brings to mind a Satanic preacher, holding up his arms, set against the red, artificial sky like some sort of anti-Christ.

The only sign of any sort of redemption in this video is a quick flash of Shadow's silhouette, only this time like white light that disappears in the sky. If one were to think about it too much, one might come to the conclusion that it signifies some sort of deliverance. My opinion on such a thing would be that to think it would be silly. The imagery here is not supposed to mean anything other than "See Avenged Sevenfold. See Avenged Sevenfold be bad ass. See Avenged Sevenfold bring rock music back."

The only thing that I can think of in the video which might mean anything profound is the presence among the brainwashed crowds of a man wearing a clergy collar. With the appearance of a Southern Baptist preacher, this could be taken to signify the corruption of the Christian religion. Which isn't a point that I'd really argue against.

Those who claimed Avenged Sevenfold weren't a metal band? Watch this video and think again. This is a pseudo-evil, dark and scary clip to contest anything Pantera ever did. The difference being that the band members here are young and good looking, lacking the hair that made Pantera the stereotype for metal heads everywhere.

All in all, it's a good video. I wouldn't call it amazing, and Seize the Day still takes the place as my favorite Avenged Sevenfold video. But if Almost Easy is to set the scene for this upcoming stage of Avenged Sevenfold's career, I think we can all agree with M. Shadow's statement that this will be their heaviest album yet.

One final note - I've only seen the pirated version of this video on YouTube. Usually I exercise restraint when it comes to such things. For instance, I waited until the album version of Almost Easy was released before I listened to it. But I just couldn't wait for this. If you think that it was ridiculous of me to type up this review about two minutes after viewing the video, think how long and involved this would have been if I'd actually seen it on Fuse?

Zacky Vengeance's hair!

Please pardon the fangirly journal, but I can't help myself.

Holy shit. He died his hair blond! That . . . that's . . . I think I've been rendered temporarily speechless. The only words coming into my mind right now are just random curse words because I am so shocked. Just . . . wow. I can't believe my eyes. Wow.

The weirdest thing is that he looks good! I never, EVER would have pictured Zacky V. with blond hair. It just never occurred to me. But it looks fabulous on him, and that's not just my inner fan girl talking. Really, it does look good. It definitely brings out his eyes, which we all know are gorgeous. He actually looks good with blond hair, and that is probably the biggest shocker of this.

Zacky V. has blond hair. I think it's the end of the world as we know it. (but I feel fine, because he looks great)

Anyone else as shocked as I am?

Question for Blaqk Audio

Hey Jade and Davey. I'm really loving Blaqk Audio, it's very cool. I'm sure that you've gotten comments like this by now, but I had to ask. My question is, now that Jade is getting to have all kinds of fun with synthesizers and keyboards, will there be a "return to the guitar" of sorts in AFI? Keep up the great music!

The Used - Smother Me

Due to some things which have taken place in the past year or so, I have become rather embittered on the idea of love. Or, at least, the idea of love for me. Yeah, other people can be in love, that's real cute. But me? No way. In fact, I couldn't even really listen to a song that wasn't bitter in some way without getting bitter, my self. For instance, take Avenged Sevenfold's beautiful track, Warmness On The Soul. I adore that song, and the beautiful, unconditional love it describes. But, for a while, I would refuse to listen to it because it made me so sad. I think, though, that the spell has been broken. Thanks, in chief, to Smother Me, by The Used.

Let me first make this clear - I do not like The Used. Bert McCracken is a jerk and I pretty much hate him. However, Lies For The Liars is pretty good, considering how much I don't like The Used as a band. And Smother Me, well, it's wonderful.

I've listened to that song at least 5 or 6 times today, and I've also learned to play it. I can listen to it, and I get a smile on my face that is peaceful, not sarcastic. For some reason, the music restored my ability to listen to sweet love songs and not get pissed off.

I TOLD you about the bubbles!

Tired

Probably should be in bed.

I'm writing this instead.

And rhyming.

This happened in the airport recently:

I was on my beloved wireless device, minding my own business whilst having a most certainly important conversation when a lanky, unfortunately dressed man addressed me. He wore a baggy t-shirt tucked into his baggy acid washed jeans. His hat was one of those fitted linen models - the type that would be given away perhaps at a company pic nic or for free with the opening of a checking account. We'll say it was salmon.

As I reached down to open the bag of vegan cookies that Smith and Jade's mom had made for me, the tall intruder cut my treat flow off with:

"You in a band?"

"Yes," I responded, then immediately returned to my attention to my side kick conversation.
He went on..

"So you sound like the Chili Peppers?"

Sigh

"Yeah, pretty much" I responded without looking up.

Next he said, and I swear this is true, "I bet you guys are great to bungee jump to!?"

Me: "Oh yeah, totally."

He then informed me that he likes to bungee jump and sky dive to the Chili Pepper and that they are in fact GREAT to bungee jump to as well he presumed my band to be.

I was deciding whether or not to grab another cookie or just dump them out so I could use the large zip lock bag to asphyxiate myself with. I decided instead to offer him a cookie.

"Oh, hope there not Tikka Tack tribe cookies, tee hee, (wink wink, nudge nudge!") said he. (I'm taking liberties with the name of the tribe but you get the point.)

Tired, I was so tired as I asked sadly "what?"

"TIKKA TAK TRIBE cookies!, You know! They make speeeeeecial cookies."

Further depressed and refusing to bite I said curtly "Drugs? Are you referring to POT cookies?"

"Yes," he said only slightly dejected and informed me of some made-up psychedelic tribe's baking habits.

"NO, there's no POT in the cookies. They are, however, vegan."

He took a tikka tak free cookie, ate it, and said that it was really good.

Finally he decided to take my cookie and my spirit and leave me back to my sidekick convo.

I thought you should know.

There's more blaqkaudio news coming soon. I can't wait for you all to hear this record.

I accidentally stabbed myself with my own switchblade. Don't follow suit.
